Larger Cottages Lake District, plan your family holiday now

Large cottages Lake District

In just a few short weeks the kids will be breaking up from school and now is the perfect time to be planning your family holiday.  This is especially important if you plan to holiday as a larger group, ie extended family with grandparents, 2 families holidaying together or as a group of friends.

Larger cottages do tend to book in advance, there is much more organising to do when you have 2 or more families to consider and the planning generally starts long before the search for the ideal accommodation.  For example, 2 families usually have 4 adults all requiring the same dates off work, some counties break up and return to school on different dates so the children’s availability is also something to consider before settling on a date for your fun packed holiday.

As soon as time off work has been agreed then the search for the perfect holiday accommodation to meet your needs begins.  There is much to consider when travelling as a group and usually travelling distance, plenty of activities for young and old alike and adequate cooking facilities to ensure even the fussiest of eaters can sit down and enjoy a family dinner together come top on the tick list.

The Lake District is the perfect destination for families and has some stunning larger cottages that will comfortably accommodate the largest of parties ensuring everyone’s needs are met.  Being relatively central, it is a great meeting point when families are travelling from different directions.  Lake Ullswater is only moments off the M6, within a 10 minute drive from the motorway you can feel the stresses of home life slowly diminishing as the beauty of the towering mountains and shimmering lake engulfs your mind and body.

As a group there are lots of interests to take into account when planning your holiday and the Lake District is a versatile playground, even the finickiest of travellers will find something to enjoy during their holiday.

Activities for everyone

The Lake District is probably best known for its stunning scenery and no visit here is complete without taking in some of Britains best views, climb Scafell, England’s highest mountain, and admire the views unfolding in front of you, on a clear day the vista seem endless.  Take a lake cruise and explore the lake from a new angle, some even offer themed cruises or events, something to keep an eye out for.  But the lakes and mountains are also an adrenaline junkies dream; paddle boarding, canoeing, sailing, ghyll scrambling, rock climbing, fishing, horse back riding and mountain biking are just a few of the activities available all within a short drive.

We also know that one persons heaven is another persons hell so for those who prefer life a little slower there are numerous spas promising to leave you rejuvenated, or why not get a therapists to visit you at your accommodation.  There are country homes and castles waiting to be explored, many offer themed events during the school holidays, Lowther and Muncaster Castles are definitely worth checking out with the kids, as are places like Brockholes, the Pencil Museum and the World of Beatrix Potter.

There are numerous activities aimed at the children, you will need to return year after year to fit them all in.  Spend days on the farm at Walby Farm Park, visit the Lake District Wildlife Park, take a train ride on the La’al Ratty, visit an aquarium, explore stately homes, the Puzzling Place will amuse children for hours, watch the latest film releases at the cinema, play crazy golf, spend a day at the seaside, visit the Honister slate mine, the list is endless.
