Getting to the Lake District
The Lake District is located in the county of Cumbria which is bordered by Scotland to the north, Northumberland and Yorkshire to the east, Lancashire and Morecambe Bay to the south and the Solway Coast to the west.
Due to its location and easy transport links it is an ideal meeting point for families holidaying together or for groups having a catch up who live in different parts of the UK.
BY CAR
There are great transport links throughout Cumbria, some of the best views on the M6 are travelling through the county of Cumbria with the majestic fells providing a scenic backdrop.
The A69 connects Northumbria with Cumbria and the A66 connects the A1 (M) with Yorkshire making the county easily accessible.
Cumbria does have a number of remote location not easily accessible by bus so a car is recommended for your Cumbrian holiday.
BY BUS
Stagecoach is the main operator in Cumbria with bus stations in Carlisle, Penrith, Keswick, Windermere and Ambleside enabling changes to take you to all corners of the county.

BY TRAIN
Being on the West Coast Main line, trains regularly pass through the county with stations at Oxenholme, Penrith and Carlisle.

BY PLANE
The nearest airports are Newcastle, Glasgow and Manchester, all offering international and domestic flights. Each have car hire facilities available.
