The Grasmere Gingerbread Shop

The Grasmere Gingerbread Shop is the Lake District’s tastiest visitor attraction. Nestling beside St Oswald’s Churchyard in Grasmere, it is the ONLY place in the world where Grasmere Gingerbread® – which was invented in 1854 by Victorian cook Sarah Nelson – is made. Visitors are served by staff wearing traditional period costume. Grasmere Gingerbread® also runs a second shop in Hawkshead.

Wordsworth Grasmere

Solway Aviation Museum

The Solway Aviation Museum, based at Carlisle Airport, is home to a collection of aircraft, aviation artefacts, and displays reflecting Britain’s position as a world leader in aircraft design and innovation at the dawn of the jet age.

The museums’ primary objective is the preservation of our Aviation heritage, it’s display and interpretation. Take a nostalgic journey back to Wartime Cumberland and the men and women of the RAF who served in World War II.

The museum is run by a dedicated team of volunteers who give up their free time to painstakingly restore many of the exhibits. Through their love and knowledge, they are preserving aviation history for generations to come.

Access into our Vulcan B2 XJ823 is included in the admission charge and the tour can be booked upon arrival at the museum, access is based on first come first served basis, due to the limited space within the cockpit.

Hawkshead Grammar School

A Grammar School Education, Wordsworth’s Inspiration’. Situated in the quaint Lake District village of Hawkshead, the Hawkshead Grammar School Museum gives insight into school life from 1585 to 1909. The classroom houses a collection of historic classroom furniture and artefacts used in the School, some of which date back to the 16th and 17th Centuries. Upstairs, visitors can see the permanent and temporary exhibitions, with books from the historic library on display.

Talkin Adventures

Based at Talkin Tarn, Talkin Adventures have a number of activities running throughout the year and during the school holidays, there is something for everyone and activities for the whole family to get involved with.  The range of activities include archery, canoeing, kayaking, orienteering, raft building, stand up paddle boarding, axe throwing and medieval Tebuchet building all with qualified instructors.

Private Swimming Pool Hire, North Cumbria

Carrock View Leisure Pool is located at Heads Nook within a short drive for our guests staying in our Brampton, Talkin Tarn or Castle Carrock cottages.  The pool is available for private hire and has disabled access, changing rooms and baby changing facilities.

Self-Guided Audio Tours

A self-guided audio tour is the best way to discover the fabulous English Lake District at your own pace and with your own group. There are 6 different self-guided audio tours, 3 driving tours and 3 town walks, all narrated by the enthusiastic local tour guide. For each one you will learn all about the local area and attractions, interesting history and stories as you go, and of course soak up the magnificent scenery!

You will need the VoiceMap app to download a tour which will then work offline. The app uses GPS autoplay to play audio at the right location and ensure you stay on track. A wonderful way to explore and learn about the National Park.
