Located on the edge of Whinlatter Forest and only 3.5miles west of the popular market town of Keswick is Thornthwaite. The village is popular with those who seek walks and mountain bike trails from their door, especially through Whinlatter itself. Comb Beck, a tumbling waterfall, is easily reached via a footpath from the centre of the village and a path through Powter Wood leads to Bassenthwaite lake. The neighbouring village of Braithwaite can be reached by road or walk along the elevated path enjoying refreshments when you get there in the pub or restaurant. For those who prefer to explore further afield on foot a walk across the valley will bring you to Dodd Wood and Skiddaw. Thornthwaite Galleries and Tea Rooms is popular with visitors to the town where local artists display their paintings, jewellery and crafts, a lovely lace to pick up unique souvenirs from your holiday or enjoy a cuppa with a delicious home made cake.
