Grasmere cottages are ideal to explore the area that lies to the north of Ambleside and is the gateway into the Langdale Valley.  The village is famous for its connections with William Wordsworth and Dove Cottage, his former home, unchanged from when he lived there giving you an insight into a bygone era and for Grasmere Gingerbread, a delicious sweet treat.  The village has a number of shops, bars and restaurants, along with art galleries, Co-Op and village green.  Helm Crag (known as the lion and the lamb) towers above the village and is just one of the many walks right from your doorstep.  Grasmere Water is one of the smallest lakes in the Lake District but combined with nearby Rydal Water, they can both be walked in a day, Rydal Water is becoming increasingly popular with wild swimmers due to its lack of motor boats.
