On the days the fells don’t beckon there are wonderful sights and adventures waiting for you, head to Ashness Bridge and marvel at Surprise View, stunning what ever the time of year.  The Bowder Stone in the Borrowdale Valley finds climbers practicing their skills at the bottom but invites you to climb to the top for a birds eye view of the area.  Relax in Hope Park, enjoy a picnic whilst gazing out over the lake or enjoy a game of crazy golf or putting.  Fitz Park offers tennis and a BMX track and nestles on the banks of the River Greta.

Amuse the children with a day at the Pencil Museum, Puzzling Place, Indoor Rock Climbing or the Lake District Wildlife Park at Bassenthwaite.  Bassenthwaite Lake itself is a short drive from Keswick and the pretty village of Bassenthwaite is worth a visit.  Head south out of Keswick and you will find Grasmere home of William Wordsworth, Ambleside and Windermere, all easily accessible by car or on the local buses and time spent exploring these Lakeland towns is a must during your visit to Keswick.

Keswick is centrally based from which to explore the northern part of Cumbria, the Western Lakes home to Buttermere and Loweswater are less than half an hours drive and Ennerdale and Wastwater are also easily reached.  A day at the beach along the Solway Coast is less than an hours drive and the market town of Cockermouth is just over 20 minutes away.  The northern Caldbeck fells and known locally as ‘The Back o Skidda’ is also within a half hours drive.  The county capital, Carlisle is less than an hours drive and apart from the shopping centre for your retails therapy has a castle, cathedral and museum for those with an interest in a past era.  A day at Hadrian’s Wall is just over an hours drive and slightly further north the Scottish Borders and Gretna Green made famous for eloping couples getting married over the anvil is less than an hour and half drive.
