Arnside & Silverdale Cottages, AONB near South Lake District

Although not strictly Cumbria, Arnside and Silverdale cottages are within a short 20 minute drive of the South Lakes and are beautiful holiday destinations located in the north western part of Lancashire in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.  The area is known for its stunning natural landscapes, charming villages, and diverse wildlife.  Situated along the coast of Morecambe Bay, the area offers breathtaking views of the estuary and the surrounding countryside where picturesque coastal walks, including Arnside Knott which offers panoramic views of the bay and the Lakeland fells in the distance.

The RSPB Leighton Moss Nature Reserve, a birdwatchers delight, is one of the most important sites for wildlife in the UK.  The expansive reserve is a haven for various bird species, including bitterns, marsh harriers, and bearded tits.  There are well-maintained trails and observation points, making it an excellent spot for both seasoned birdwatchers and those who enjoy being out and about in nature.

The area is dotted with charming villages, each with its own character and history.  With its seafront promenade and charming cafes, Arnside, is a popular spot for visitors to relax and take in the serene atmosphere, whilst nearby Silverdale offers picturesque walks through woodlands and limestone pavements, adding to the rural charm of the region.

Apart from walking and birdwatching, the area offers various outdoor activities like cycling, sailing and fishing.  The nearby Lake District National Park and Yorkshire Dales are within easy reach, making it an ideal base for exploring both national parks.
