Overview

As the name suggests, Grasmere View Cottage is all about the spectacular, breathtaking view across Grasmere Lake which is sheltered by the surrounding mountains. Each day promises a changing vista as the sun sparkles off the waters surface and stormy skies conjures up a dramatic landscape in front of you. The cottage is in an elevated location above the lake and is part of the owner’s holiday home, all on the ground floor and provides spacious accommodation for 2. Guests can picnic in the garden with views across the lake or head up into the fells right from the door and enjoy a different vista from the fell summits. The village of Grasmere is a 10 minute walk with shops, bars, restaurants and tea rooms.

Enter the cottage via the clematis covered canopy into the spacious lounge/dining room. Relax in front of the smart TV with free to view Sky channels and a DVD player. You can link a Fire Stick into the TV and bring your own downloaded programmes.

As well as the electric heating the electric stove effect fire keeps you warm and toasty on chillier days. If you get a soaking on the hills a handy outside utility room has a washing machine and tumble dryer for your use.

The dining table is positioned in front of the French doors, enjoy a delicious meal for 2 whilst gazing out at the magnificent lake view in front of you. The well-equipped kitchen has everything needed to create a feast including electric oven and hob, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, and microwave.

After a day on the fells relax in the bath, or for a quicker freshen up, there is a shower over the bath and as evening descends the cosy double bedroom beckons furnished with oak furniture.

All electric, bed linen and towels are provided. Private parking for 1 car. Lawned garden with view across the lake and outdoor seating to sit out and enjoy the views. Please note there is a stream in a culvert to the side of the cottage and the slate paving can be slippery when wet.

The land in front of the cottage is privately owned by the National Trust and is rented out to a local farmer for his sheep to graze or to make hay in.

Grasmere is best known for its association with the renowned poet William Wordsworth. Wordsworth, who once resided at Dove Cottage in Grasmere, drew inspiration from the beauty of the surrounding landscape, you can follow in his footsteps by taking leisurely walks around the lake or hiking up to viewpoints like Helm Crag.

The village itself exudes a quaint charm with its traditional stone cottages, narrow winding lanes, and village green. The Grasmere Gingerbread Shop is a must-visit for those with a sweet tooth, offering a taste of the famous local treat. The village also boasts a range of cozy tearooms and pubs where you can savour hearty meals made from locally sourced ingredients.

As the sun sets over the fells, Grasmere transforms into a magical landscape illuminated by the warm glow of streetlights. Whether you're strolling along the shores of the lake or unwinding in a cozy inn, the village exudes a sense of peace and contentment that is truly enchanting.

Some of the best fells such as Loughrigg, Helm Crag and Alcock Tarn can be walked right from the door. Elterwater is walking distance away over the common. I n less than 20 minutes’ drive, the Langdale Horseshoe awaits the adventurous with walking and climbing. Ambleside and Windermere are a short drive south and the popular market town of Keswick is a 25-minute drive north making Grasmere a perfect central base from which to explore the Lake District.
