Talkin Tarn nestles 9 miles East of Carlisle and 2 miles south of Brampton where there are shops, bars and restaurants. Wander down to The Boathouse Cafe and Gift Shop, enjoy a coffee and lunch al fresco overlooking the tarn or hire a rowing boat or canoe, try your hand at sailing, windsurfing and paddle boarding or hire a mountain bike and explore further afield.
If you prefer a more laid back activity a stroll around the 1.3 mile tarn takes you through the mature woodland, you can fish to your hearts content (subject to licence) from the shores of the tarn or enjoy a round of golf.
Further afield there are numerous historical sites within a short drive including Lanercost Priory and Tea Rooms, Hadrian’s Wall and Carlisle Castle. Situated a short drive from the A69 both Carlisle and Newcastle are easily accessible and the shores of Lake Ullswater are just over an hours drive away.
