Set on the owners 100 acre farm, Sandbeds Farmhouse dates back to 1729 and nestles between 2 national parks, The Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. Its location adds double the reasons to stay with scenic walks from the door and easy travelling to the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales for further walking opportunities and a wealth of activities for the whole family.
The farmhouse is a home away from home, think plush sofas arranged around a crackling wood burning stove and smart TV, large comfy beds and fluffy towels. As you approach the farmhouse you immediately notice the tranquil surroundings, promising a peaceful break away. The cottage has been recently sympathetically refurbished, carefully thought out to maintain the traditional character but provide modern conveniences throughout for the discerning guest.
Part of the original farmhouse which dates back to 1729, the living room has 2 large sofas around the Inglenook fireplace housing a wood burning stove and Smart TV with satellite, window seats look out over the garden, with a canopy of oak beams and the original dated spice cupboard adding character to the room. The large open plan kitchen, dining and living area is in the modern extension, exposed brick walls and beams add character, whilst the picture windows and French doors flood the room with natural light. This is the perfect space to come together to socialise no matter what time of day it is. Enjoy gourmet meals prepared in the well equipped kitchen with a range cooker, fridge, microwave and dishwasher. The large dining table is spacious enough for you all to eat together while you catch up with the rest of the group and reminisce on your day, a large L shaped sofa in front of the satellite TV offers further comfy seating. The sun room is perfect for relaxing days or leisurely morning cuppas. There is a handy utility/boot room with freezer, washing machine and ample space for storing and drying walking gear. For those who struggle with stairs the ground floor bedroom has a super king size bed that can convert to twin beds on request and there is a handy ground floor shower room with hand basin and WC.
As evening descends and sleep beckons the first floor has 4 spacious bedrooms each promising a restful nights sleep. The first bedroom has a super king size bed that can convert to twin beds on request. Two further bedrooms have king size beds and the last bedroom has a double bed. There is an oak framed bathroom with walk in shower, freestanding roll top bath, hand basin and WC. The second bathroom has a walk in shower, bath, hand basin and WC.
All oil, electric, bed linen and towels included. Private parking for 5 cars. 2 cots and highchairs available. There is a large herbaceous garden, a herb garden, you can’t get much fresher for your gourmet meals, BBQ and guests are welcome to explore the farmland for views across the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales.
PLEASE NOTE there is strictly no smoking/vaping, pets, Hen or Stage parties allowed at the cottage.
Grayrigg is located 5 miles from the charming market town of Kendal and 6 miles from Sedbergh, the gateway to the Dales, in a peaceful and tranquil corner of Cumbria, perfect for unwinding after a day full of adventure and sightseeing. Ideally located with easy access to both the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales National Parks, it offers the best of lakes, mountains and adventure. The M6 is 5 miles away allowing guests to easily explore further afield including the historic city of Carlisle and the university city of Lancaster and Preston.
Kendal is a vibrant historic market town known for its mix of popular high street shops and unique independent boutiques, along with a wide variety of cafés, delis, bars, and restaurants. It’s also famous for the annual Mountain Festival and its iconic Kendal Mint Cake—regarded as the original energy bar, created over a century ago.
Just a short drive away, Sedbergh exudes old-world charm and is officially recognised as England’s book town. It’s a delightful destination for those who love walking, cycling, and exploring literary treasures. The scenic towns of Windermere and Ambleside are also within a 30-minute drive, making this an ideal base for discovering everything the Lakes and Dales have to offer.
