Eden Mount, Wetheral is a superb Grade II listed Victorian home overlooking the village green in the highly sought-after Eden Valley village of Wetheral. Designed and built in 1872 for a prosperous tea merchant, this elegant property now provides an exceptional setting for family or friends to gather, with mountain views across the Pennines and Lakes mountains. Its convenient location, with easy access to the M6, the Lake District, Scottish Borders and Newcastle, makes it an ideal meeting point for guests travelling from across the UK.
The house has retained much of its original charm, boasting a wealth of period features throughout. Wetheral village offers a welcoming pub, restaurant and village shop for everyday essentials, and lies on the Newcastle train line, making car-free days out simple. Local history enthusiasts will enjoy exploring nearby attractions, including the waterfall at Corby Castle, the impressive 19th-century viaduct spanning the River Eden, and the remains of an ancient abbey within the village. The city of Carlisle is also close by, offering a castle, cathedral, shopping and a wide range of entertainment for all ages.
Accessed via a short flight of steps, the house opens into a spacious hallway where decorative stained-glass windows and traditional Victorian tiled flooring set the tone. For relaxed evenings, the main sitting room provides a warm and inviting space to unwind with a book or enjoy time together beside the fire. Alternatively, a cosy snug (also with open fire) is available, plus a large formal dining room for dinner parties or board game nights.
The traditional kitchen is well equipped to meet all culinary needs, with an electric double oven and hobs, along with a fridge, microwave and dishwasher. Meals can be enjoyed together at the kitchen table, ideal for less formal sociable gatherings, whilst a sofa allows conversations while cooking. A useful utility room includes a large fridge-freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer, and there is also a convenient ground-floor WC.
After a day of exploring, retire to one of the beautifully presented bedrooms. There are three double bedrooms, including a super king-size four-poster room and a double four-poster bedroom, along with a further double bedroom. The fourth bedroom features a king-size bed that can be converted into twin beds on request, while the fifth bedroom is fitted with a single bed or twin beds as required. Two family bathrooms complete this floor: one with a bath, walk-in shower and wash basin, and the other with a bath and shower.
During warmer months, guests can enjoy the extensive gardens, which include a generous lawn surrounded by mature shrubs and borders, as well as a patio area with outdoor furniture for alfresco dining.
