History-loving adults and curious young explorers alike will be captivated by the private path leading directly to Hadrian’s Wall. Step into the shoes of Roman soldiers as you walk along the Wall to nearby forts, where children can marvel at the ruins, explore archaeological sites, and discover fascinating stories in the museums. Just a short distance away, Lanercost Priory offers atmospheric ruins to explore, with the added bonus of a lovely café — perfect for a relaxed family brunch.
There’s plenty to keep children entertained close by. The Lake District Airport is only minutes away, as is the Solway Aviation Museum, a fantastic day out for all ages with hands-on exhibits and historic aircraft. Surrounded by open farmland, the cottages are also a wonderful place for spotting wildlife, from deer, foxes, and pheasants to friendly farm animals such as sheep and cows.
Centurion, Irthington is a first floor apartment with a private patio and BBQ with views over the north Lake District fells from the lounge.
The open plan lounge/kitchen/dining area is flooded with light from the gallery windows with views towards the distant Lake District fells, it is equipped with everything needed for a relaxing break. Settle on the leather sofas to watch your favourite programs on the TV. The kitchen area has an electric oven and hob, fridge, dishwasher and microwave, perfect for rustling up a family meal to be enjoyed at the dining table. There are 2 bedrooms each with a TV, a double and a single bedroom, each promising a restful nights sleep. Freshen up in the family bathroom with a shower over bath and hand basin.
All electric, bed linen and towels provided. Cot and highchair available on request. Private parking for 1 car with additional cars by arrangement. Private patio area with dining furniture and BBQ. There is a shared drying room with washing machine, tumble dryer, freezer and space for drying walking gear and storing bikes.
Situated in the northern corner of Cumbria, this is an ideal base for exploring the region. With the A69 and M6 close at hand, days out to Newcastle or the Scottish Borders are easily within reach. The market town of Brampton is 3 miles away and Talkin Tarn, a beautiful nature spot, is perfect for families, with a café, play area, rowing boat hire, and seasonal activities. Ullswater — the Lake District’s second-largest lake — and the popular town of Keswick are both within a 45-minute drive, offering stunning scenery and memorable days out.
The historic border city of Carlisle is 9 miles away, where you can continue your historical adventure at the castle and cathedral, enjoy family attractions and parks, browse the shops, or dine in one of the many restaurants. With so much to see and do, you’ll be tempted to return again to fit it all in — before heading back to your peaceful countryside haven to relax and unwind together.
