The pretty13th century market town of Sedbergh in the Yorkshire Dales nestles on the border between Cumbria and Yorkshire, perfectly based to explore both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks. The town is sheltered by the towering Howgills, some of Wainwright’s favourite walks, with the rugged fells of the Lake District to the East and the Pennines to the West. This pretty town retains a number of cobbled streets and historic houses which remind us of their knitting and woollen trades of this once thriving, historic, market town. As one of England’s leading book towns, there are numerous book shops, independent shops, cafes and several pubs including The Dalesman Inn popular with locals and visitors and the award winning bar and restaurant the Black Bull Inn. Within a short drive there are 3 golf courses, tennis courts and fishing for the sports enthusiasts, historical houses and attractions including the Carlisle to Settle railway line, Cautley Spout England’s highest cascade waterfall, Farfield Mill a working arts and crafts centre and gallery with café and crafts shops and artisan demonstrations.
